Because of a tool slippage problem I had to dress the taper in the chuck.
Here are the first, second and third place trophies.
The Golden Fiddle is a perpetual trophy that is presented to the winner of the Championship Class
Each year on the first weekend in June Branch #7 of the British Columbia Old Time Fiddlers hosts a fiddle contest. In 2012 our Branch has the honour of hosting the Provincial Contest where the Provincial Champions in 8 distinct categories are decided. I offered to make the trophies for the 2012 Contest.
For this task my CNC equipment was going to really be put to the test.
There are three place trophies in each of eight different categories.
This is the Third Place trophy - plaques carved in Pine.
As much as possible the 4 X 6 inch trophies were all carved from a single pine plank.
The second place trophies are carved in Maple
The second place trophy features the Branch #7 logo.
Again as many trophies as possible were carved from a single plank.
There are ten carvings shown here - one was a failure.
The First Place trophies are all carved from Black Walnut. It takes about 5 hours to carve one trophy.
Three First place trophies carved from Black Walnut plank.
The Trophies are Finished!!
First, Second and Third in eight classes plus small plaques for first, second and third in novice and 11 “Thank You for Competing".
This took a month of all my spare time designing, cutting and finishing the trophies.
The were well received and worth the effort.
